Overview

New Jersey's cannabis sales climbed 12.5% year-over-year as the state's dispensary footprint expanded by more than a fifth, reaching 304 licensed stores by April 2026. Sitting in the emerging tier, the Garden State has posted cumulative two-year growth of 20.5%, fueled in part by cross-border demand from neighboring New York and Pennsylvania consumers who still face limited retail access in their home markets. Average prices dipped 5.5% over the past year as new store openings introduced competitive pressure, yet total sales kept rising on the strength of higher foot traffic and a broadening product mix. Concentrates and pre-rolls are the fastest-moving segments, while flower still commands the largest share of the basket. RYTHM remains the top-performing brand across the state. New Jersey legalized medicinal marijuana in 2010 and recreational cannabis in 2020, with licensed adult-use retail sales launching in April 2022.
